While perusing my facebook fan page Bennu Cafe on Sunday evening I came across a very interesting discussion involving Kanye West… West is known for causing controversy on and off the stage, however, this time the issue was that of fashion.

Kanye West has created quite a buzz in the fashion world as he is gearing up to debut a womenswear collection in September at New York Fashion Week.  Women’s Wear Daily also confirmed that the pop star will be teaming up with Guiseppe Zanotti to design a line of stilettos!!!   He joins the likes of Beyonce, the Kardashians, Jay Z, Gwen Stefani among other celebutantes who have ventured into high fashion to capitalize on urban consumer’s ..How do Afropolitan designers feel about this?   The Org of Black Designers facebook fan page  had my full attention here’s what they had to say:

“Though we understand the draw of celebrity when are companies going to step to true designers and when are these fake celebrity designers going to collaborate or bring in all of you REAL talented BLACK DESIGNERS?! Should our top Black designers be Diddy, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye or Pharrell instead of Tracey Reese, Shane & Shawn Ward, Mikel Kilgour or LaQuan Smith? WTF! I gotta lie down.”

Say what you will the man definitely has style. View some of my fave Kanye looks below:

Arise Magazine is known for bringing the best in African fashion to cities across the globe and in September they return to New York with their highly anticipated “Made in Africa” collective September 15th, 5pm at Avery Fisher Hall.

Here’s what Mercedes Benz Fashion Week reps had to say:

“Since the launch of ARISE magazine and our inaugural ARISE show three seasons ago, it has been our mission to bring African culture to a wider global audience. We are proud to be able to give some incredibly talented designers the opportunity to showcase their creations on a global platform, an opportunity they would not hitherto have been afforded.”

Uhmmm, ok…    Below is a list of some of the featured designers that will be showing their S/S 2012 collections. Happy showing! May the seats be filled with stockist/buyers, Edward Enninfuls and Anna Wintours.

Earlier this year Balmain, the rock-glamour Parisian house, named  25-year-old Olivier Rousteing  their new creative director.  Olivier Rousteing designed for Roberto Cavalli for 5 years before joining Balmain’s womenswear studio in 2009.  The question on everyone’s minds is will he be able to deliver this season? The jury’s still out… We’ll just have to wait and see, the collection will debut at Paris Fashion Week in October!! Ooh la la….

Azzedine Alaïa A/W 2011

“….technical feats like this collection’s short fitted jackets, as well as evening dresses that limned the body to the hips, dipped to cup the bum, then erupted into flamencolike tiers of ruffles. All in knit! Sober yet erotically charged, they were looks for proper grown-ups—of any age. “You just don’t see clothes like that,” one loyal customer rhapsodized at show’s end. “There’s everyone else. Then there’s Alaïa.” – Style.com

Azzedine Alaïa is undoubtedly a master at his craft.  His Autumn/Winter 2011 collection will leave you breathless.. I’m drooling over the above knit dress, oh Alaia!! View more of my faves below.
