Designer Nicolas Petrou was born in Cyprus. He studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, and then moved to New York City, where he founded the label where he continues to deliver magnificent collections each season; it’s no wonder he has been named Arise Magazine’s Menswear Designer of the Year 2012 for PETROU\MAN

The West Africa influenced SS12 collection draws inspiration from modern age fashion and culturally rich traditional influences. Designer Nicolas Petrou is well known for his ingenious way of adding hand applied details to classic menswear. In this collection Petrou experiments with texures, prints, layering, and color.

Joyce Bidouzo-Coudray summarizes the collection nicely:

“Using both traditional and modern fabrics that range from hand-dyed tartans to organic cotton and jersey wool as well as microfibers, nylon and metallic leather, the collections offer a modern take on refined classical menswear with a twist of tribal sophistication.”

His latter collection, for A/W 2011, was inspired by artist David Gòmez (and his tribal faces), the inspiration behind the make-up and the patterns.. View photos of both collections in the gallery below.
