“She’s still sexy without being trashy and that was my goal,” – Laquan Smith

Laquan Smith obviously reads this blog…(*waving* :-) )  The Fall/Winter 2013 collection titled BOND was a bit more mature than his previous collection boasting a bit less lycra and more syle and craftmanship.. Nice! This collection I can actually appreciate..

Smith’s signature use of PVC and Scuba material is explored yet again in several intricately tailored pieces. But there’s more to this collection than the slick, modern and, at times, overtly sexy pieces we’ve come to expect from Smith. This season the designs display a sense of growth and maturity — best seen in the luxe materials (leather, fur, pony hair and lace) used to elevate the collection. -Huffington Post

Imagine going to a concert and watching Michael Jackson moonwalk for an hour and a half, it’s great but you know that he has so much more to offer.  That’s the feeling I got viewing Laquan Smith’s Spring 2013 presentation.  While I adore Laquan Smith I do wish for more than a serenade of peek-a-boo dresses, hot pants, metallic skirts & crop tops.

Laquan says: “This collection is like a rebirth for me. I have traveled to Botswana, Lagos, Nigeria, the British Virgin Islands and Jamaica all in the past few months. Traveling always inspires me from the people I meet to the food to the scenery. The collection is honoring those tranquil places around the world that we often take for granted.”

This designer is known for creating bold & sexy looks for confident daring women, but when he misses the mark the looks become tragically audacious and tacky.  Mr. Smith is not by any means a mediocre designer Laquan has created collections like THIS  and THIS so it’s definitely not a matter of talent more so a matter of taste.  (Sigh) But this is just my opinion and means absolutely nothing to his celebrity clientele who come out in droves to glimpse his latest designs; June Ambrose, Deborah Cox, Gabrielle Union, and Serena Williams may beg to differ.

PVC, Vinyl, & Holographic textures was my obsession this season!”-LQS

Laquan Smith’s fall/winter 2012 presentation titled “Robotic Dream” is edgy and seductive.  Smith is the type of designer I adore; fresh, exciting.  He flexes the boundaries of your imagination with each collection.

Eclipse by Laquan Smith SS12

Laquan Smith is definitely a designer to watch.

Last spring Laquan Smith thrilled us with his electrifying Hard Candy collection; this season he brings us new life with Eclipse, an avant- garde collection in monochrome and metallic.  While he opted to tone down the color palette he turned up the volume creating intense fabulousity that is completely wearable.
